Gum Problems and Poor Oral Hygiene
Did you know that gum sores and gum disease are caused by poor oral hygiene? One of the major problems in our society today is oral health care. People neglect to brush their teeth at least two times a day. Brushing your teeth may be as simple as reciting the ABC; however this is often set aside or ignored.
Gum diseases are a dental health problem that can lead to more serious health issues if untreated at an earlier stage. Scientific studies show that gum problems are also signs and symptoms of heart diseases, stroke or diabetes. Thus, it is important to regularly schedule a visit with a professional dentist. Your dentist will diagnose your teeth and gums. After the diagnosis, a recommendation and prescription will be given to you.
Most likely, your dentist will advise a prophylaxis or dental cleaning to wash off dirt or cavities that were not removed during brushing. A dental cleaning is recommended at least twice a year or once every six months. Gum sores usually occur when you do not brush and floss your teeth. Hence, there will be an accumulation of bacteria in your mouth. Flossing is equally significant to brushing. The purpose of dental flossing is to remove dirt stuck in between your teeth.
In addition, gargling mouthwash at least once a day can help remove cavities and at the same time freshen up your breath. It can also help if you use soft-bristled toothbrush for gentler brushing. If your toothbrush has hard-bristled, it can cause damage to your gums. If you have sensitive teeth, you can have toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Remember that too much brushing is harmful to your teeth and gums. Moreover, smoking cigarette and chewing tobacco can also aggravate gum diseases.
A dental surgery can also be an alternative, depending on how severe the gum sores has affected your teeth and gums. This procedure can be traumatic to patients especially to teenagers. However, this is usually the last decision your dentist will suggest.
True that gum diseases do not happen overnight. It undergoes a progressive procedure. This is the reason why many people believed that gum problems only happen to adults. But, gum diseases can also be acquired by youngsters who do not value oral hygiene.
Generally speaking, in order to avoid gum sores and gum diseases, it is best to maintain good oral hygiene. No one else can benefit this but you.
